For those who are thinking about purchasing the Student/Teacher edition of Photoshop (or another Adobe product for that matter), the process of registering is surprisingly quick and painless.
I purchased my boxed copy of Adobe Photoshop Extended CS5 Student and Teacher Editionfrom Amazon and upon delivery had my copy fully registered in less than 10 minutes. I assume the process would be similar if not identical had I ordered directly from Adobe.
In 5 Simple Steps
To get started, you need the unique Product Code that comes with your purchased copy of the software. In your boxed copy, you will find a small square, yellow “Student and Teacher Edition: Acquiring your serial number” guide with a Product Code (XXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) attached. (I assume the Product Code is provided directly during the online purchase or via email if you purchase a digital-only copy online). With the Product Code in hand, follow these five easy registration steps…
In your browser, navigate to www.adobe.com/go/edu-validate to get started. Initially, you are prompted to enter your Product Code. Once you click the “I am ready for step 2” link, you will be prompted to enter your first name in a small pop-up dialog. You should then be passed to Step 2.
Next, you will be prompted to enter your name and your “role” – either Faculty, Staff, or Student. You will also need to enter your birthdate. At the bottom of the form, you will need to enter a CAPTCHA (security code).
In this step, you will enter your contact information and, most importantly, you will enter your school issued email address – this is the “eligibility” criteria that Adobe is checking. Adobe will send your Serial Number to this email address so be sure that you have access to this account.
Now, this is where the information you enter may vary from mine as I registered as a teacher. If you choose to register as a student, I assume the questions on this page may vary slightly. You will need to identify your specific school (and campus) and then provide a few more pieces of information. Upon submitting your information, Adobe will confirm your eligibility and, assuming everything is in order, you will move to Step 5.
The final step of the registration process is to receive your Serial Number which will be sent to the email you provided in Step 3. Check your email, retrieve your serial number, enter that when you first start the Photoshop software on your computer, and you are good to go!
