With Hurricane Harvey now in the past, LSC has made some last minute schedule changes…here’s what I’ve got on my schedule now:
Our Summer I semester starts next week here at Lone Star College – University Park. I’m super excited to be teaching Beginning Web Programming (ITSE 1311) again this semester. For those who are pursuing (or interested in) our Computer Programming Specialist AAS degree at Lone Star College, ITSE 1311 does count as one of your required programming language electives.
Here’s my syllabus if you would like to learn more!
We kick off a 2-week SEO class tonight at the Montgomery Campus.
We meet two Wednesdays – the 17th and the 24th from 6-10 pm in at the Montgomery campus. Our classroom will be in the University Center, room 307. (map)
This course is offered as part of our Web Developer track. Register now and come join us!
Whether you are an LSC student or a faculty member, did you know that you can add a photo to your D2L profile? As an instructor, I really appreciate when my students upload an image of themselves. This is especially helpful at the beginning of the semester when I’m trying to “put a face to the name” for my many students. And, as you can imagine, this is even more valuable for the online classes that I teach!
Instructors, you will be doing your students a huge favor by also adding this to your profile. Your students are looking for you and having a face to identify is reassuring, especially for those students who are on campus for the first time! Take time to upload your photo – your students will thank you!
So your next question is likely, “How do I add my photo to my D2L account?” So let’s take a look…
Login to your D2L (Brightspace) account
In your browser, visit D2L.lonestar.edu and click the “Alternate Login” link to login. Use your LSC username and password to login. Alternately, you can also reach D2L by logging into my.lonestar.edu and clicking ‘LSC-Online’ from the menu on the left.

As a student or even an employee at Lone Star College, you can download and install Microsoft Office on your own computer. This means you will be able to use the full version of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. In other words, this is not just the online version of Office, known as Office 365.
The quickest way to get Office installed, is to visit: Office.com/GetOffice365 where you will be prompted to login. Be sure to use your LSC student email (e.g., email@example.com) and your LSC student password to login.
Once you are logged in, you will be given the option to install the Office products for your platform, either Windows or Mac OS. The ‘Install Office 2016’ button should be visible at the top right of the page. Please note that if you are using a Google Chromebook, you will not be able to install the full “desktop version” of Office. The mobile version of the Office Suite for Android is available but this should not be confused with the full desktop version for Windows and Mac.
